Operation Rainbird Comms Contingency

I opened this up as a topic at the suggestion of Ohio Guy and MM. Put all comms grid down contingency questions/suggestions/ notes/ ideas etc relating to Operation Rainbird here, and i will compile them into a seperate document. I am keen on getting some volunteers from various countries to help implement it, so if you are part of any prepper communities feel free to share it around. Already got a few people here in WA and Wales who will help with its implementation. And if you know a ham, please bring to their attention the suggestions added by Kman in the comments section of the above article, which can be found at ([daegonmagus] - Part 22 - Operation Rainbird – A Contingency Plan for a Transcontinental Clandestine Communications Network in Case of Major SHTF & Grid Down (metallicman.com))

I have what is called a CHiRp program in a laptop folder. With it, I can download it into my Baofeng UV-5R and the program automatically presets ham and other frequencies for immediate use. It takes a special adapter interface cable that came with my purchase of the five pack radio and charger set that I bought on Amazon a couple years ago. I would link the program source now but I will have to dig in my folders to find it. I used to have a copy in my email folders but that disappeared when I just checked for it. For anyone with newer versions of the UV-5R, the CHiRp program may not work because of restrications imposed by the US on these radios. That said, there are still many out there, available and capable for the download of the program.

I really would like to see this topic expand greatly in the near future. In the meantime, I will work on gathering as much info as I can from "reliable" sources for anything comms related and place it here. Thank you, @congjing yu and @daegonmagus for this very important topic.

Here is a link to the program and documentation. I second the importance and urgency of this. I have to brush up my skills, it’s been couple of decades since I messed around with radios. Unfortunately I had to ditch my eartly belongings a few months back, so I need to replace my gear anyway.

Any advice? The UV-5R is still available in China at least, as well as UV-  10R. I’m planning to hook it up with Raspberry Pi running Tails OS.
