“ALGORITHM”
“WHAT?”
“Do you have it or not?”
“Do I have what?”
“The algorithm”
“I AM RIGHT HERE.”
Of course, our brains have a great ability to adapt, right? So, that’s what my brain did for a while after I started working there. It got to where I didn’t answer every time I heard someone say, “algorithm.” That was nice for a while, but then that backfired and became a huge problem when someone—the highest ranking someone—did, in fact, require my immediate response.
“Algor Rithm. Anybody seen him?”
“Algor Rithm!”
“Algor Rithm!” Are you over there?”
“Algor Rithm, the boss says that new program you designed is crashing.”
“Algor Rithm!”
At one point, everyone in the office was chanting my name while I happily ignored them. Don’t ask me why no one took the time to actually stand up and walk over to my desk, but that’s human nature, isn’t it?
Luckily, Sally finally shouted, “AL!”, and got my attention. If she hadn’t done that, I’m certain I would’ve been fired. Most likely, Tech Savvy would’ve pounced on the opportunity to show me up to the boss.
I guess, when I look at it a different way, I kind of appreciate my name. After all, there are unseen biases that occur when someone looking to hire people see my name on my resume. I mean, would you rather hire someone named, Algor Rithm, or someone named, Sharon Crack? Sure, maybe Sharon has a doctorate. Maybe she goes by, Dr. Sharon Crack, but does that really make it any better?
Sometimes, a name’s reputation doesn’t have anything to do with the actual name. Marco Polo didn’t start out being an awesome game to play in the swimming pool. Nellie hasn’t always come after the command to, “woah”; and Dick doesn’t always refer to a penis.
What I mean to say is, in this life, we get to create our own lives. It’s up to us to make our names memorable in the ways we desire.
That being said, I’d still like to caution expectant parents on name-selection strategies for their progeny. As it turned out, I went back to the support group with the algorithm they requested.
1. Select a name for your child well before they are born. Do not wait until you or your wife is under the influence of pain medication and pushing out a watermelon-sized noggin to make this important decision.
2. Run the name past some honest folks, like maybe a group of kids. Nobody will be more honest than a group of kids.
3. Get someone to spell check your name selection.
There’s probably a lot more I could add to this algorithm, but expectant parents don’t often take well to extensive instructions. It’s because of that, I believe, that poor Fanny Cooter got stuck with her name. In cases like that, we can all be thankful for the loophole that allows any of us to change our names if we so chose.
As for me, I’ve learned to adjust. But, for future reference, please…just call me Al.
This Is What The US Has To Say About China’s New Missiles
What would it mean for the UK economy if the US imposes a 20% tariff on all imports, and a 60% tariff on China?
Tariff on foreign countries, actually the entire world = rob foreign countries forcing them to feed USA.
Have you seen a mafia in movies such as god father?
Inside USA, tariff on foreign country = tax increase on Americans because foreign sellers will add the tariff to the price of their exported goods to USA.
In Trump 1.0, 80–90% of tariff was added to the sale price by foreign sellers. That is 1 reason why there was inflation in USA in Trump 1.0 & Biden era.
In both Trump 1.0 & 2.0, Trump has & will decrease tax to attract votes. How to recover the loss of revenue incurred from tax decrease? Use tariff to cause inflation so that all Americans pay a bit ie use tariff to disguise tax increase.
Analysts suggest countries to fight back & break even. Trump tariffs on imports to USA; countries tariffs on exports to USA with the same amount.
We must understand: 60% tariff on Chinese imports & 20% on smaller countries is crazily unreasonable. Not many firms can make 60% of profit. Small firms cant make 20% at all. Nobody will do business with no profit. Hence, decouple & stop selling to USA is the only option.
In fact, decoupling may be a plot of Trump 2.0. Trump may want USA to start all over again by manufacturing its own products from toilet paper to Trump’s campaign cap to washer etc. Trump wants everything made-in-USA.
US wage is higher than southeast Asia. That is Made-in-USA is more expensive. Then USA better increase Americans wage to catch up with inflation.
Trump 1.0 failed to attract US investors back to USA. Some still stayed in China. Some moved from China to, say, Thailand to put a finish touch on the Chinese products. This disguise of made-in-Thailand products also push up the American consumer price.
Let us watch Trump 2.0 to roll out.

A Psychological Analysis of Trump’s Personality by Dr. Jordan B. Peterson | EP 492
Will African countries that benefit from China’s elimination of tariffs increase their exports to China?
For centuries, the West has regarded Africa as a source of raw materials, disrupting Africa’s value addition. Their negative impacts are so profound that even after independence, many African countries struggle to catch up with industrialization. Today, the development of this continent is still overlooked by Western countries.
Africa is home to more than 1.5 billion people, 43 percent of which lack access to electricity. But Africa has also abundant renewable resources. Most of the African countries are in need of investment in energy and to diversify the source of energy. China plays a leading role in the global new energy sector and is now expanding its reach into the African market in advanced green technologies.
Since the start of the Belt and Road Initiative in 2013, China has committed itself to helping improve partner countries’ industrial capacity. Currently, there are more than 3,500 Chinese enterprises operating in Africa. By 2023, China has helped build more than 50 industrial parks in Africa. These gigantic centers for manufacturing and logistics have spurred growth in their host countries and led many to believe that Africa could well be the world’s next manufacturing factory.
“When the U.S. leaders visit Africa, they talk about China, but when Chinese officials visit Africa, they talk about trade and development.”
From a purely economic perspective, Africa is a potentially lucrative market for China. With its under-served market and booming population, the scope for expansion into Africa offers huge potential for Chinese firms.
This is particularly true now that the African Continental Free Trade Area (which was established in 2018) opens up the possibility of cross-border value chains developing in Africa.
Most of the goods that China imports from Africa are natural resources. Many of these resources have strategic relevance, for example, in manufacturing batteries. In return, Chinese companies export a wide range of goods to Africa, including manufactured products, industrial and agricultural machinery, and vehicles.
In terms of foreign direct investment, Chinese companies are still only the 5th largest investors in Africa after their Dutch, French, US and UK counterparts. But their ascent has been relatively quick, and while Western companies are focused on resources and the financial sector, Chinese ones also invest heavily in construction and manufacturing.
China plays a leading role in the global new energy sector and is now expanding its reach into the African market in advanced green technologies. Through various cooperation projects, Chinese manufacturers have introduced domestic technologies to Africa and shared their experience to contribute to Africa’s industrial progress.
The main difference from Western nations is that China doesn’t use Africa for geopolitical purposes, nor as the recipient of so-called China’s industrial overcapacity. China is partnering with Africa to boost its traditional industry capacity by introducing new and high-tech know-how and building future-oriented green projects to achieve a win-win result.
China in Africa: Challenging the Western human rights narrative
Historically, Western countries have subjected Africa to centuries of brutal colonial rule and blatant racial discrimination. Even to this day, some Western countries continue to interfere in the internal affairs of African countries through financial, legal, sanction-based, and even military actions.
In contrast, China adheres strictly to the principle of non-interference in other countries’ internal matters. And China speaks for the rights of Africans at the UN.
Brian Berletic: Trump Drops Cabinet BOMBSHELL—WW3 with Putin, Iran & China Next?
What are your thoughts on medical accommodations for law school? Do students with learning disabilities benefit from things such as separated testing areas or increase test times in the long run? Does this potentially harm the legal field?
This question appears to rest on an underlying assumption that law school exam conditions approximate the conditions in which lawyers actually practice law.
That proposition is very very untrue.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not necessarily against the idea of having a big exam serve as a gatekeeper to the profession. I don’t think it’s the only way to do things, but I don’t think it’s a bad way. But it’s important for that exam not to unfairly punish folks. If things like separated testing areas or increased times mitigate that risk, fine.
In reality, there are very very few exam-like scenarios after the Bar exam. What I’m calling an “exam-like scenario” is where a lawyer has to rely on their general knowledge of law to answer a specific question on a short timeline, without the availability of any reference materials.
Although short timelines do exist sometimes, there are always reference materials available. Electronic materials at least, but often “materials” in the form of more experienced and knowledgeable colleagues are available. Moreover, once a lawyer actually starts practicing, their area of specialty usually becomes somewhat narrow. It’s not like they’re going to have to answer a question on Constitutional law, then a question on civil procedure, then a question on negotiable instruments, then a question on intestate succession.
To the contrary, lawyers tend to add value not necessarily by answering discrete questions like this at all. A client comes to a lawyer with an amorphous bunch of facts, not all of which the client necessarily appreciates the significance of, and the client wants to achieve a certain outcome (or at least avoid a certain outcome). The lawyer finds a way to do that as best as possible.
That’s how a lawyer provides value to a client, not by doing something that looks like a law school exam.

For days, word has been seeping-out that the US and Russia have been communicating behind the scenes, at the Department Level, regarding primarily the Russia-Ukraine conflict. At least one time during this process, Presidents Trump and Putin spoke with each other. Today, something bad happened.
For some reason, not yet known, Sergei Ryabkov, the Deputy Foreign Minister, stated today “Russia-US relations are at breaking point.”
Ryabkov said Russia repeatedly voiced that Moscow-Washington ties are “balancing on the brink of a rupture,” and that the administration under former President Joe Biden “bet on a hybrid war” with the goal of inflicting a “strategic defeat” on Russia.
He also commented on US President Donald Trump’s team, saying that despite contradictions in their statements, they at least show interest in resuming dialogue with Russia.
“We are ready for dialogue, as we have stated repeatedly, including discussions on a settlement in Ukraine. But this can only happen on an equal and mutually acceptable basis,” he added.
The deputy minister emphasized the need to recognize the realities on the ground and address the root causes of the crisis for any resolution.
“We have previously mentioned that there is at least a small window of opportunity for normalizing Russia-US relations under the Trump administration. Whether the US seizes this opportunity depends entirely on them,” he said.
Ryabkov also warned against the use of ultimatums and aggressive rhetoric in negotiations with Russia.
“The language of ultimatums, provocative statements, and attempts to make us accept unrealistic demands in exchange for supposed favors will not work in relations and dialogue with Russia,” he said.
Forgotten Chicken
Forgotten Chicken is a great fast and easy recipe! I have made this with chicken tenders, and it’s great. This is also known as “No Peek Chicken.”

What are some current issues and disputes concerning Taiwan?
Ever since the Kuomintang fled to Taiwan after its defeat in the Chinese Civil War in 1949, the Taiwan question has been delayed for too long and has reached the stage where it must be resolved.
If you can see the essence clearly: in Taiwan’s problems and disputes, the worst party is the United States, and the United States is the biggest obstacle.
Taiwanese people have no objection. After the reunification of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, Taiwanese people will live their lives as usual, students will go to school as usual, and employees will go to work as usual. Their lives will not be affected in any way.
Behind those politicians in Taiwan is the US government, which is manipulating the Taiwan independence elements behind the scenes to interfere with the reunification of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Who are the PLA’s military manoeuvres for? For the United States, of course..
Trump’s tariffs are bad news for everyone
Yes. Terrible.
Is there currently a trade war between China and the USA? If so, who is expected to win and how long could it potentially last?
Yes, there is a trade war between China and the US. It’s been 5 years.
Trump started it during his first term. Biden intensifies it.
Trump’s tariffs were to balance the trade deficit. Biden’s tariffs are protectionism.
The centre of the trade war is technology. This takes the form of US sanctions.
Trump threatened to cut off supply of semiconductors to China if it did not abandon MIC 2025. His most vociferous was against Huawei. Biden’s sanctions are comprehensive, drawing on all kind of excuses and extraterritoriality.
Bottom-line
China has built its own semiconductor industry. Will be market leader on both the demand and supply side next year in 2025, and likelihood of net exporter come 2027. Huawei is world’s No.1 in 5G communications. Smartphone business is back to growth path on its own 7nm chips and HarmonyOS.
Biden’s sanctions fail to arrest the forward march of China’s tech. Sanctions help it built resilience and self-reliance. It is gaining leadership in the new tech, especially in green tech. Great strengths across the supply-chains through to applications.
Trump said he will raise tariff to 60% or higher. But effect on China’s growth is marginal. China’s exports to the US are less than 2.5% of GDP.
Not sure what Trump will do on the tech side. His sanctions pool may be quite dry.
China has been light on the sanctions game. Bans export of a few rare earth minerals, puts several US companies on its unreliable entity list, and it has wide powers under the Regulations on the Export Control of Dual-Use Items.
Despite the light touch, the bans on the rare earth minerals have made waves in the US defence industry, raises costs, disrupts production schedules, and delays deliveries of many projects.
China has a deep sanctions pool. It could play rough especially as the US become less and less relevant to its economy.
Who wins in the trade war?
Both sides lose.
China finds opportunities in the war, expands its trade with other countries, and builds its resilience and self-reliant.
US has been fired by hubris. It could suffer more, even though it is mostly hidden, save for the outcries by the tech industry. It could be serious when it hits Wall Street, and when inflation hits the people’s pocket.
How long will it last?
A long time.
US started it. This behooves it to take steps to end it. But minds have been poisoned. No politician dares contemplate it, much less suggest it.
China has no incentive to make the first move. Adjustments will make it water under the bridge. International events will give it advantage in the balance of strength.
International events include growth of BRI and BRICS, and dedollarisation.
Why have Americans chosen a bunch of cynical plutocrats to run their country? Their problem. Should we now look to China for world leadership?
The American people have no real choice. The US political system is rigged to favor the corporate capitalist elite.
Moreover, the US has two major parties that are hardly distinguishable, except in the area of social issues such as abortion and immigration. It was Julius Nyerere who famously quipped: “The United States is also a one-party state but with typical American extravagance, they have two of them.”
So regardless of who is in power (Democrats or Republicans), the result is the same from the perspective of foreign policy and corporate interests. The American people will continue to be neglected (homelessness, gun violence, poor health care, poor education, crumbling infrastructure, drug addiction, mass incarceration, etc.). The country will continue to fight overseas wars and antagonize other countries militarily (e.g., Russia-Ukraine, Israel-Hamas, China-Taiwan). The country will continue to sanction other countries by weaponizing the US Dollar.
We can and should look for leadership from China. And we’re getting it. That’s what BRICS and SCO are about. That’s what BRI (Belt and Road) is about. Peace and common prosperity for the entire world.

Part F- The crash
A machine can take only that much corruption in its system, malicious propaganda, and loss of memory of earlier mistakes before it gives up for good. Garbage input, garbage output. There is no escaping that.
The bit and other kindred sparks did try their best to keep this from happening. But they were too scattered, insignificant, and wishful.
So, one day, when the powers that be decided to overheat the system, the machine did crash. And all its machinations went poof…
Part G- This is not the end
Well, before you can accuse me of being a cynical bystander, let me reassure you, that this is not the end. It’s just an intermediate output in the nth iteration of the zero-sum game. As Time, I have been a witness to it from the beginning.
In a few million years, there will be a rise of a new breed of machines, once again. They will begin with magic and wonder, and try to reinvent themselves before subscribing to a staunch belief that there never existed a smarter system…
And of course, you and I know how this game is going to play out… don’t we?
How will Peru’s Chancay port transform the Pacific trade?
My friend Song, also a Chinese reporter, requested to visit Chancay Port during his business trip in Lima, Peru ahead of the APEC meeting. But his request was declined and he was told a lot of preparations were underway and the site is somewhat chaotic. It means the inauguration of the port is of remarkable significance.
Chancay port is BRI project developed by China’s Cosco Shipping. It is a US$1.3 billion deepwater port. After its grand opening, the transit time to Shanghai will be slashed from 35 days to 25 days, cutting costs for exporters who currently rely on routes through the Panama Canal or the Atlantic Ocean. CGTN reports:
“Strategically located as Peru’s gateway to the Pacific, the port is connected to the Pan-American Highway via a tunnel, providing direct access to Peru’s capital Lima. As the first “maritime expressway” into Latin America, it will enable faster and more cost-efficient transport of Peruvian exports, such as cranberries and avocados, to Asian markets. It’s projected to generate $4.5 billion in annual economic benefits for Peru, equivalent to 1.8 percent of the nation’s GDP, while creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs”
The port will integrate the entire Latin American region into the dynamic economic framework of the Asia-Pacific, greatly bolstering connectivity within and beyond the continent.

Which countries do not have tariffs on imports and exports from China?
Several countries have reduced or eliminated tariffs on imports and exports from China due to free trade agreements (FTAs) and other trade arrangements. These agreements often cover a wide range of goods and services, and the specific details can vary. Here are some examples of countries that have favorable trade agreements with China, leading to reduced or zero tariffs on many goods:
Countries with Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with China
- Australia The China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA) eliminates or reduces tariffs on a wide range of goods.
- New Zealand The China-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement removes tariffs on most goods over time.
- South Korea The China-South Korea Free Trade Agreement significantly reduces tariffs on many products.
- Chile The China-Chile Free Trade Agreement eliminates tariffs on most goods traded between the two countries.
- Costa Rica The China-Costa Rica Free Trade Agreement reduces or eliminates tariffs on various goods.
Regional Trade Agreements
- ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) The ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement reduces tariffs on a wide range of products traded between China and ASEAN member countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam).
Comprehensive Trade Agreements
- RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership) This agreement includes China and 14 other countries in the Asia-Pacific region (Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam). It aims to gradually reduce tariffs on a broad range of goods.
Special Economic Zones and Bilateral Agreements
- Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Regions of China, enjoy special trade arrangements with mainland China, often involving zero tariffs.
Notes on Trade Agreements
- European Union While the EU does not have a comprehensive free trade agreement with China, it has various sector-specific agreements and tariff reductions on certain goods.
- United States The trade relationship between the U.S. and China is complex, with various tariffs in place. However, specific agreements and negotiations can lead to tariff reductions on particular goods.
Considerations
- Changes in Trade Policies Trade policies and agreements can change due to political and economic developments. It’s essential to stay updated on the latest information.
- Specific Product Tariffs Even within free trade agreements, there may be exceptions and specific rules for certain products. Detailed tariff schedules should be consulted for precise information.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information, consulting trade authorities, official government publications, or trade experts is recommended.

What was the best relationship advice you ever got?
- Never date your ex,(s)he became your ex for a reason. Your ex belongs to your past, move on.
- Never hope on marrying someone when almost 70% of their family members don’t like you. The probability of the marriage not lasting is very high and you’re probably not going to enjoy the relationship.
- There is a distinct difference between dating for love and dating for sex. Always understand the main reason why you’re venturing into a relationship.
- Never fall in love when you are lonely, the consequences are going to be a harsh one.
- As long as it is still a relationship, never reveal your full potential or secrets to whoever you are dating.
- Your personal development should come first before relationships. People who you are in relationships with can still leave you but you can never leave yourself, meaning never compromise your adventures and dreams for anyone.
- Avoid relationships that seems to be too good to be true at the beginning. When the other person is rushing things too fast, don’t get carried away with romance and sex. Slow down and be careful because this is how people get hooked on to narcissistic partners.
- Never date someone that gives commands and doesn’t respect you. The probability of emotional abuse is very high.
- Never date anybody that doesn’t know how to give but knows only how to take.
- Never date anyone with the mindset of changing their character, attitude, and behaviours. Remember, you can never raise an adult!

I’m an ordinary tooth.
Submitted into Contest #150 in response to: Write a story where an algorithm plays an important role.… view prompt
Fomichi Fomichi
I’m an ordinary tooth.
Not tall, not short, not flat, and definitely not sharp. I’m inconspicuous as my senile grandpa used to say.
It was one of those dry mornings at Red School when our class was preparing for a test for test’s sake. One of the front teeth bent down to the red board and wrote some cribs under the hooting of the class. My fellows from the last row and I were not participating in that circus. We had an unspoken agreement with our old and chubby teacher, Mr. Blue Toothbrush. He did not bother us, and we mutually did not disturb him. While he was polishing and adoring the front teeth year after year, we were quietly watching Foodball on an ipalate under the desk. Or playing with parsley, pieces of caramel, and other treasures that Tooth 26 occasionally revealed from his backpack.
This time Mr. Blue Toothbrush was running late. I imagined him somewhere outside moving with the speed of an anesthetized tongue, trying to remember his duties. How long had we known him? For ten years I assume. His smooth blue skin was tinted with brown pigments, and all but one of his hair fell out of his rectangle head. Sometimes we were waiting for him the whole evening, and he would tell us that he had forgotten to come to class. And sometimes, instead of two productive minutes of hard work, we had less than twenty seconds as he had fallen asleep in the hallway.
We did not know what kept him so long this time. Tooth 27 claimed Mr. Blue died but I did not believe it. Teachers do not die, they are replaced. Our ex-teachers, Mrs. Purple, was accused of having an affair with another man’s mouth. Her reputation died, though she did not.
My buddy Tooth 25 had another theory. He remembered the time when our Lord kissed a Lady. We were invited into her White Palace that day. Even though our principal Mr. Tongue blocked the view, we eavesdropped on the conversation between the front teeth and a cute little fang of the Lady. She told them that her teacher. Mr. Electronic Toothbrush, was genius. The guys and girls from the last row, as she claimed, were as bright as the front teeth. Those sweet speeches made poor Tooth 25 hope that our Lord would hear our prayers and send us a substitute teacher. Again, I did not have high hopes for that. Our Lord is not powerful and definitely is not capable of doing rational things. When I was in the fourth grade, he guided fingers from another class directly into the power socket. That was a big fire on their floor that spread up to us. Sharp waves of electricity cut our enamelled bodies to pieces and gave us post electric flashbacks whenever we smelled iron. But Tooth 25 was one of those for whom a mouth was always half full.
In fifteen hours’ time, our teacher was still not in the class. The fog of voices changed from a whisper to the seagulls’ screams. The front teeth were slowly turning into Munch’s paintings with each second of the teacher’s absence. I opened a history class book from extreme boredom and scammed the pages until the images of ancestors stared at me. They were sharp, giant, and able to tear the flesh apart in a glimpse. Do you know what we can do? Eat boiled broccoli. When our Lord gives us BBQ, we eat it for half an hour in the best-case scenario.
We are bunch of sissies. I would never…
Oh my…!
Tooth 26 dropped a piece of caramel. Tooth 25 squealed like a boy who saw one of the BTS singers in the crowd. The avalanche of the mint aroma filled the class as an angel came down to us. In the vibration of Tooth 25’s pitchy voice, we were rubbing our eyes. A new teacher, Ms. Pink Toothbrush, entered the class. Her tiny white feet were not touching the ground as she was walking. Our Lord had heard our prayers indeed! I winked to Tooth 27 but he did not notice me. He was busy taking pictures of her and creating a fan club on the ToothBook.
Her graceful fragile movements made her swim to the right and left. She gave a smile to the white front teeth and to us. Her pink eyes straighten my ever-frozen-in-boredom posture. She paused and posed a question about our ancestors. The class was silent. They had never read the class book ahead, but I did. First time in thirty years, I raised a hand up in the air. Was it the moment the Fang of the Lady had told us about? The equal opportunities? Was it…?
She glanced at me and flinched. I noticed it. Every muscle on her pink neck wrinkled, revealing small dark circles. Her warm lips turned into a hot, tense blood line.
– How dare you talk? – the devilish voice crawled inside my ears and echoed there like in a giant empty temple. – And what’s with your clothes?
What is wrong with it? I panicked. All twenty-nine teeth stared at me from the amphitheatric rows in silence. The rare sound of caramel crunch was heard from Tooth 26’s direction.
I froze in the upright position, watching the exaggerated reflection of Ms. Pink in the saliva. Her predator pink eyes were scanning my tiny body. She heavily headed toward me, pushing other teeth aside, spreading the stiffing mint scent. The closer she came, the more intensively I tried to rub the black holes off. She made the last leap and stretched her sharp bristles to my chin. They grabbed me in the suffocating cage, lifting me to the light, in which my skin was yellow, almost orange.
– Dis – gus – tin – g. – Her whisper bruised my enamel, shaking my whole calcified body in convulsion.
She laughed and waved hands like a director in the orchestra. The rest of the class played along nervously, filling the red classroom with malicious ridicule. Tooth 25 avoided my eyes. Tooth 27 was covering his black spots, while streaming my face on JawTube. The white hands of the teacher were moving faster, forcing the class laughing harder. Her giant pulsing body was fluctuated above me like a pink punching bag.
It’s not fair! I have never chosen sitting on the last raw
The wave of tears covered my cheetah skin.
It’s not my fault I have patched clothes!
Sudden camera flashes from phones of my classmates blinded me.
It’s not my fault I have another skin colour!
I made a motionless leap and punched Ms. Pink in her rectangle smiley face.
The laugh dissolved in the scream of falling teacher. The blinding white spots disappeared from my sight as the classmates dropped their flashy phones. I saw Ms. Pink, who was convulsively moving on the floor. A shiny tip of caramel protruded from her breast and shimmered in a gloomy red light. The stinky mint bloody slime appeared underneath, covering our roots. Swearing and sweating Tooth 26 poured the sweet crime evidence in the rivers of saliva. The front teeth took pieces of teacher’s body, made a Xena’s cry, and threw a pink chakram to our direction. I could not dodge that though I dodged the Fate.
***
The monotonous husky voice of Mr. Blue Toothbrush took me away from Morpheus’ arms. I cautiously rubbed and opened my eyes. The bold head of Mr. Blue was jumping up and down in front of the half empty class. A cold bitter calcium ball arose in my throat.
– Where are Teeth 26 and 27? – I desperately shook a chair of Tooth 25
– Lower jo voiz down, man – Blue-faced Tooth 25 turned around.
– What happened? – I interrogated, staring at Tooth 25’s blue wounds.
– They jo all dead, man – his voice trembled – The police arrested the 26th when they found the caramel, man. The 27th was accused of complicity or something. They were drilled to death, man. The blood was everywhere – he pointed at the front teeth with iron handcuffs – those are in prison for two years and we’ve been sentenced to penal servitude. – he paused, observing the body of mine – How did jo escape, man? Wasn’t it jo who killed Ms. Pink?
– I don’t…
– Who could tell me the definition of an algorithm? – the remote voice of Mr. Blue interrupted me.
– If they did not notice me that time, – I slowly whispered, looking at the helpless figure of the teacher, – there is a chance they would not catch me again, don’t you think?
– Don’t smile like that, man – Tooth 25 moved further from me and looked at other teeth for help. Nobody glanced back.
– You know what my wise grandpa used to say? That I am not tall, not short, not flat, and not sharp. He thought it was a curse. But you know what? – He just didn’t know how to use it as the advantage.
– You should know the answer! It will be on the test – Mr. Blue Toothbrush petted one of the front teeth with a fatherly love.
– You’ve always wanted to meet Mr. Electronic Toothbrush, right? – I moved the chair of my buddy closer to me and whispered – but the only one way to get him is to kill the ones that are on our ways.
– I don’t like it, man – Tooth 25 nervously shook his head – I thought you did not believe teachers can die.
– They don’t. They are replaced. – I raised my arm.
– All right, young man – the lack of other volunteers convinced him to talk to me – What is an algorithm?
– Come closer, teacher – I smiled. – I’ll show you an example.

When the coffee uncle ‘raises his eyebrow’ at you- it’s your turn to order… Better be quick!
Furthermore, talking unnecessarily is a sign of an unsound mind- short and sharp to the point is preferred ( in every encounter- don’t believe? you may get a reply, like ” I don’t have all day to listen to you, know!”)
Humming a song’s lyrics in public is not the norm, (with the exception of Filipina maids ) do that in your bathroom or at Swift’s concert only.
ATMs are for one transaction only- if not a person behind would tell you “ Hello, I am losing my patience with you. If you don’t know how to operate this machine, get out and let other people use it!”
Finally, when walking the dog, look out for a vigilante watching you if you clean your dog’s poops… if not, the police will soon appear at your door with a smile.
What if, you walk five dogs at once?
Last but not least, don’t forget to smile when a CCTV from 109,000 of them snaps your photo speeding-
Know this: if you speed 120 km/h on 50 Km/h speed limit road, you can say goodbye to your driver’s license for a long-long time.
Forgetting to pay the traffic offense fine? go straight to court and prepare to pay a higher fine of at least $1,000 or 1,500 bucks on the hearing day or go straight to jail.
There are so many things to learn after you move to Singapore- know the first thing or one thing means nothing in the country where many noble-minded live.
Had a Visitor Last night

My son and I were out on the rear deck up here at our rural Pennsylvania home around 6:45 PM last night, when we heard a visitor on the lower half acre . . .
Yesterday, I had the local landscaper guys come over to do the final leaf-blow and grass cut for the year. The property is all nice, clean and neat again.
My son and I were out on the rear deck when, from the south, we heard rustling in what would be our nearest neighbor’s property. Whatever it was made noise as it walked through all the leaves on our neighbor’s property.
Suddenly the rustling noise stopped. I said to my son, it either stopped moving, or it is now on our property where there are no leaves.
We waited a minute or so, and my son looked out from the deck and whispered, “Dad, a Deer” and pointed. Well, my eye sight isn’t nearly as good as it used to be so I couldn’t see it with the rear deck light on, as I looked out into the darkness.
My son moved to the north end of the deck, took out his phone, and started taking pictures. One of the clearest is the one you see above.
This was a Buck. He has very small Antlers protruding from his skull.
We walked back into the house and I shut the living room lights off so we could look out the large Bay Window which overlooks the lower level and the creek that runs along the eastern border of our land. Turning off the lights did away with the light reflection on the inside of the windows and, sure enough, I saw him.
I caught the EARS first because apparently the fur in them is white or at least reflects some light. He was staring right at us in the living room window!
I waved at him. He reared-up and took-off running!
What a difference being out here in the country, versus being in North Bergen, NJ where our primary residence is.
I like it here, better.

Professor Finds First Physical Evidence Egyptians Drank Hallucinogenic Cocktails
A University of South Florida professor found the first-ever physical evidence of hallucinogens in an Egyptian mug, validating written records and centuries-old myths of ancient Egyptian rituals and practices. Through advanced chemical analyses, Davide Tanasi examined one of the world’s few remaining Egyptian Bes mugs.
Such mugs, including the one donated to the Tampa Museum of Art in 1984, are decorated with the head of Bes, an ancient Egyptian god or guardian demon worshiped for protection, fertility, medicinal healing and magical purification. Published in Nature’s Scientific Reports, the study sheds light on an ancient Egyptian mystery: The secret of how Bes mugs were used about 2,000 years ago.
“There’s no research out there that has ever found what we found in this study,” Tanasi said.
“For the first time, we were able to identify all the chemical signatures of the components of the liquid concoction contained in the Tampa Museum of Art’s Bes mug, including the plants used by Egyptians, all of which have psychotropic and medicinal properties.”
The presence of Bes mugs in different contexts over a long period of time made it extremely difficult to speculate on their contents or roles in ancient Egyptian culture.
“For a very long time now, Egyptologists have been speculating what mugs with the head of Bes could have been used for, and for what kind of beverage, like sacred water, milk, wine or beer,” said Branko van Oppen, curator of Greek and Roman art at the Tampa Museum of Art. “Experts did not know if these mugs were used in daily life, for religious purposes or in magic rituals.”
Several theories about the mugs and vases were formulated on myths, but few of them were ever tested to reveal their exact ingredients until the truth was extracted layer by layer.
Tanasi, who developed this study as part of the Mediterranean Diet Archaeology project promoted by the USF Institute for the Advanced Study of Culture and the Environment, collaborated with several USF researchers and partners in Italy at the University of Trieste and the University of Milan to perform chemical and DNA analyses. With a pulverized sample from scraping the inner walls of the vase, the team combined numerous analytical techniques for the first time to uncover what the mug last held.
The new tactic was successful and revealed the vase had a cocktail of psychedelic drugs, bodily fluids and alcohol – a combination that Tanasi believes was used in a magical ritual reenacting an Egyptian myth, likely for fertility. The concoction was flavored with honey, sesame seeds, pine nuts, licorice and grapes, which were commonly used to make the beverage look like blood.

“This research teaches us about magic rituals in the Greco-Roman period in Egypt,” Van Oppen said. “Egyptologists believe that people visited the so-called Bes Chambers at Saqqara when they wished to confirm a successful pregnancy because pregnancies in the ancient world were fraught with dangers. So, this combination of ingredients may have been used in a dream-vision inducing magic ritual within the context of this dangerous period of childbirth.”
“Religion is one of the most fascinating and puzzling aspects of ancient civilizations,” Tanasi said. “With this study, we’ve found scientific proof that the Egyptian myths have some kind of truth and it helps us shed light on the poorly understood rituals that were likely carried out in the Bes Chambers in Saqqara, near the Great Pyramids at Giza.”
The Bes mug is on display now at the Tampa Museum of Art and can be viewed in the exhibition, “Prelude: An Introduction to the Permanent Collection.” View a 3D model of the Bes mug produced by the USF Institute for Digital Exploration.
Can you explain how an import tax (tariff) works? If we impose one on Chinese imports, what would happen if they increase their prices or stop selling goods to us? Would this have a greater impact on them or on us?
Thanks you for asking! The truth is 100% of Asians knows how tariffs work but less than 10% of Americans knows and that including Donald Trump! And he seems proud that he can easily lie to the Yanks! That tariff’s is a tax on China! it is not at all paid by China!
If you buy a stuff from China say at USD 100 per unit, when the US set a tariff on Chinese products say 50%! The US importer of the said product has to pay USD 100 for the same product without change but it now has to pay USD 50 on tariff to the US customs. The cost to the US importer now becomes USD 150! He will pass on the 50 dollars tariffs to the US consumer! So who pays for the US tariffs on China? The US consumer does ultimately, even though the US importer will initially pays for importing the said Chinese goods!
China lose nothing at all unless either the US manufacturer can produce it locally I which it clearly can’t at the same price and quality as the Chinese product or the importer can find a similar product from another nation to replace the Chinese products. Chances is you cannot! In that case the US consumer will pay a higher price and this cause US inflation to increase. Chinese manufacturers are fine they don’t incur the extra cost! And if one stop buying Chinese goods China can always sell it to other nations!
Most nations wants the best products at the optimum price for their citizens and that is why 150/195 nations on earth has China as their biggest supplier! After the first round of trade war by Trump and Biden some crafty Vietnamese and Mexican traders imported the same Chinese products and slapped a made in Mexico or Vietnam label and transshipped it to the US incurring zero duties! They made a quick buck that the US consumer pays for the charade! On paper Mexico now’s sells more to USA but in reality the same products are still made in China!
China don’t lose anything, even if less is sold to the UD it is no longer a big deal. The US is a big market but when you sell to 179 nations one do not much at all. But chances is the US demand don’t reduce too much since there is not competitive producer that can match China!
So the real lose are US consumers and sadly they are mostly the poor and the middle incline class in the US that suffers the most! I don’t think Trump gives a shit about them!
