There will come the soft rains by Ray Bradbury (Full text)

This is a nice story by Ray Bradbury. It takes you to a point in time. It’s about a life after the insanity of mad kings and corrupt politicians. I do hope that you appreciate this story like I do.

Especially since it takes place in America in the year 2026

There will come the soft rains

Conclusion

It’s a very short story.

I think that this story stands alone on it’s own merits.

People have forgotten. The American leadership has forgotten what a cold war was, and the threat of any day having your complete life turned upside down by nuclear war. This week, America is going to base it’s nuclear SLBM missile subs in Australia, and Australia agrees to host the systems.

Jesus!

This kind of nuclear-war level posturing is dangerous. On one hand Biden says that “America doesn’t want war”, on the other hand, it was one year after it launched three lethal bio-weapons strains on China. And is placing nuclear weapons in the QUAD that rings the Chinese mainland.

Do they think that the rest of the world is as ignorant as the dumbed-down Americans are?

I guess so.

The United States is a run-away train and it ain’t stopping or slowing down for shit. The final crash is going to be spectacular, and horrific at the same time. This story here describes that aftermath.

Ray Bradbury’sThere Will Come Soft Rains” tells the story of a house that has survived a nuclear blast in the year 2026. The house has automated systems, not unlike a modern-day smart home. Each day, the house makes the beds, cooks dinner, and throws out the trash—despite the fact that its owners have died.

I read this story in seventh grade. Literally a week or so ago it was raining, very softly, out of character for this time of year. Not only did I think of this story but was going to look it up – to share with my niece, who is about the same age and wondered what impact it would have on her. MM -I am fucking telling you this shit happened literally last week!

Thank you for posting it. Growing up in the North East USA during the cold war was no different than anywhere else – nuke propaganda EVERYWHERE. Especially here in the USA. But this story had that neutrality that it makes no difference where you were. It could be California or Romania. Life – and the machines – go on.

Another reason this hits home on a personal ‘cool beer story’ note. How? If you remember (or google) Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen – of the “Sid and Nancy” movie fame. They lived in a hotel on 23rd St. in Manhattan I think (or18th st.) but when I read this story I was a very very Young punk rocker who went there with his uncle and got his picture taken with Sid. Mom has it somewhere, but he got charged with killing her – then later killed himself. How it relates to me and this story is right after I read it I passed the hotel and the cops were bringing Nancy’s body out. It was a bloody MESS and they didn’t cover her body well. As I walked home I couldn’t help but notice – that as my life as a kid was just sorta devastated – I mean, I was a fan of the Pistols – but everything else just – moved on. It was the first time I really, TRULY felt insignificant-if I wanted to be.

Its a great story! Thanks for sharing it! Fucking coincidences… I shit you not – last week!
